Microsoft Introduces New Windows Security Enhancements Under Secure Future Initiative
Microsoft has unveiled a series of Windows security and privacy improvements designed to strengthen user protection and increase transparency. These updates, part of the Secure Future Initiative (SFI) announced in November 2023, mark a significant step toward making Windows safer by default.
Windows Baseline Security Mode
One of the headline features is Windows Baseline Security Mode, which ensures that only properly signed applications, drivers, and services can run. This safeguard helps prevent tampering, malware injection, and unauthorized changes.

Microsoft also confirmed that Secure Boot certificates will begin expiring in June 2026, with refreshed certificates rolling out to supported Windows releases. Secure Boot protects devices from the moment they power on, blocking unsigned software before Windows starts.
User Transparency and Consent
To give users more control, Microsoft is introducing User Transparency and Consent features:
